On Settings
Fuck. I'm three minutes in listening to the latest SF in SF recording and (who is probably) Geoff Ryman says something brilliant:
"It's probably best to think of setting as a character because settings want things. Settings prevent people from doing things and they are a tremendous source of conflict and have a will of their own but most importantly, they change."
