So far in 2013, I've turned off the Internet: no checking of RSS feeds, not browsing Livejournal (showing my Internet age here...), not keeping myself updated on Twitter and Facebook, no checking of stats, etc. And surprisingly, I'm totally fine with that. There's a lot of arguments, debates, and conflict that you end up avoiding--stressors that don't help your productivity (and right now, my productivity is nada).
It's a reminder for me that it's okay to step back, take a deep breath, and devote some personal time for yourself when needed. In the meantime, I'm taking baby steps when it comes to my blogging self (apologies for the lack of updates), hence this short blog entry.
Hope your 2013 is going well.
Good for you, taking a break for yourself! Sometimes the only way to slow down is to stop altogether.
ReplyDeleteYour more active presence around the place has been missed, but it's great you are taking some non-digital time for yourself.

I agree with you, Charles. I recently deleted 3/4 of the blogs I used to follow from my reader. And I've stopped blogging.
ReplyDeleteSometimes that step back really helps.
It is perfectly understandable. I feel the need of breaks from the Internet more and more nowadays and although I do not take them always I still feel the benefits of these breaks. It cools me down and lets me drift away from some things that can be only a bother. Not ignoring problems, it is not the case, but things that I do not need and seeing them only upsets me unnecessary. There are far more important things in the every day life that need my attention.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break, Charles! :)
Good for you, Charles. I'm thinking about doing the same thing, actually.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
